Windows Server 2025 Standard is a strong choice for organizations that need a stable and long-term server platform for traditional server roles, internal applications, and business-critical workloads in on-premises or hybrid environments. Compared with Datacenter, Standard is especially suitable when virtualization needs are limited. Microsoft states that, once all physical cores on the server are properly licensed, Standard provides rights for up to 2 virtual machines plus one Hyper-V host. For additional virtual machines, all physical cores on the server must be licensed again.
